How to Replace a Saab 9-3 Key

The Saab 9-3 is a fantastic car that is full of appeal for drivers. It has a powerful engine as well as excellent visibility. It has a very high safety rating.

However, it is important to make sure that you have at least two keys that work for your vehicle. It can be expensive to replace a key if you lose it.

How to Replace the Ignition Key on the Saab 9-3

If your car's keys won't engage in the ignition you must replace it. This guide will guide you through the steps to do it on a Saab 9-3. You will need to replace the key, get an additional reprogrammable cell and buy a brand new case for your key-fob.

The majority of modern Saab models employ transponders instead of a metal key to unlock the car and then start it. The problem with this is that the reprogrammable battery inside the key-fob will wear out and not hold a charge anymore. This is particularly the case if you use the same key for the same lock.

The good news is that it can be replaced quite easily by a professional locksmith. If you've got the right tools and patience you can do it yourself. The first step is to remove the key-fob. Insert an open-ended head into the slot in the middle of your case. It is essential to work slowly, as the plastic is thin and can be damaged easily.

Once the case has been opened, you can make the new key by combining lower part of the old key with banana and transponder. This will ensure that the new key is properly connected to your CIM, which can be a major difference when replacing the sole key for your Saab 9-3.

How do you replace the ignition Key in a Saab 900

If you don't have two keys, you'll need to take off the steering wheel and dashboard for access to the ignition. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Once the battery is disconnected, you can take off the trim and dashboard pieces around the steering wheel. Once the dashboard is removed, you can insert screws into the hole behind the ignition switch.

The ignition cylinder is equipped with a key lock that could stop the vehicle from starting if it does not have the key inside it. If the ignition switch on your 900 doesn't work properly, you should check whether the key is in the lock or inside the barrel. It's also recommended to rotate your keys often and keep them clean to ensure that they don't get bent.

The Keylab  differ from other cars in that they do not have traditional keys made of metal. Instead, the car detects electric signals generated by the key fob through an specialized microchip inside.

If you only lose one working key fob your dealer will charge an additional fee to replace your computer module (also called the CIM). We can however reprogram your existing computer's EEPROM to prepare it to accept new keys without replacing it. You'll save 50% off the dealer's price! We call it the SAAB Key PROGRAM. Learn more about it here!

How to Replace the Ignition Key in the Saab9-5

The metal component of classic Saab keys is simple to duplicate and doesn't present a major threat to vehicle theft. The electronic part of the key-fob comes with an embedded chip that can identify the car when the key is inserted into the ignition switch.

Saab's anti-theft system has been relying on this technology for more than 10 years. It's not as secure as an actual lock on the door however it makes the theft of your car much more difficult. This is the reason why every Saab owner should always have an extra key on hand.

Most new Saabs come with two keys at the factory, however you can upgrade them at the dealer with a handheld computer known as a Tech-2. The cost can be under $400 for the transmitter+transponder (different than the metal key blade/shell that opens the doors and turns the ignition cylinder). The only exception to this rule is the NG 9-3 cars, which are more modern and newer features that require the use of a key-fob.

If you lose all keys and the dealer replaces your CIM or TWICE modules and charge you an additional fee for it. However, we can reprogram your EEPROM on your computer and prepare it to accept new keys, and not replace the expensive modules.

How do you replace the ignition Key in an XC90 Saab

It may be time to replace your SAAB key fob if you're experiencing issues turning the barrel of the lock. The procedure is relatively simple and doesn't require you to visit an agent. Instead you can do it yourself at home using some basic tools.

The first step is to prepare the new key. Before you begin, ensure that the anti-theft feature is disabled by placing blocks on your rear wheels and engaging the handbrake. After that, put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position, which activates the accessories, but does not start the engine. Repeat this procedure 5 times, then turn off the key in the "on" position.

You'll then need to purchase a new case for your key fob. You can get these at any auto parts shop, and they're typically very affordable. You can buy them without electronics depending on the model.

To open the case, gently push the flathead screwdriver into the slot in the middle. The case should split easily, and when you've done that, you'll have access to the internal electronics. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry out the electronics.
